You CAN take the girl out of the city, but you CAN NOT take the city out of the girl...

I have been extremely busy in the last few weeks, especially last few days, due to my move from New York City to Connecticut. Therefore, I am unable to follow the news closely as much as I wish and have time to decipher articles that I would normally read.

It’s all good! This move is good for my family, especially good for my twins. We are moving from the 24th floor of a Manhattan apartment, to a house with a yard. They will have more freedom to run around, ride their bikes and enjoy the outdoors on their own with little adult supervision. Here in the city, my kids either have play dates in my apartment or in their friend’s apartment, always a parent present. So they have little privacy and be kids without adults watching over them at all times.

In the suburbs, they will run around in our neighborhood with other kids who are their age. It’s good for their independence, it’s good for their self-esteem and it’s good for me as I will not have to be the referee at all times. We all need a little space from each other.

Of course, there is the issue of the schools. Damn Bloomberg allocates very little money for New York City public schools, so the class sizes are more crowded then average, less money for extra curricular activities and less money to advance the educational quality children receive. As any parent, I understand and value the importance of receiving good solid education. Like anyone, I want to give the best that I can to them. In my mind, city schools are just not adequate enough.

As for me, I will miss the energy and the diversity of the city. I will miss my friends, I will miss walking long hours in the streets, I will miss being anonymous but most of all I will miss what New York has to offer. I am a city girl at heart and it is very hard for me to give up that side. The good news is, I will be only an hour away by train or car. I can live with that!

I really enjoyed and loved New York City. I really love New Yorkers and I really love my neighborhood. I will learn to love, in time, my cute town by the ocean in Connecticut. My husband worries a little about me adjusting to the suburban life. I want to assure him from here that I will try my best.

If I am on and off for the next few weeks, excuse my absence as it is due to the hectic time I am having due to the move. I love blogging and I love writing about what ever I fancy. I have so many ideas that float in my head…. For example, Dr. Tillers murder infuriated me and I wanted to write a long post about that, but just didn’t have the time…. I will soon…. Stay tuned!

Have a lovely weekend…

Good luck with the move, I enjoyed this blog as it is the type of decision many of us have had to make. Yet millions of people around the world have little choice in where they live.

On the murder of DrTiller, sadly it seems bigoted Ayatollah's do not only live in Iran.

I am totally disgusted with the media and their take on Dr. Tillers murder. They call him "the baby killer", or "Tiller the Killer".... but what the #$#^^$@# are they??

Yes you are right.... Ayotollah's do not only live in Iran. Apparently they are all over the Fox news and the mid-west of the USA..... What scares me is the message this gives to other doctors who are performing abortion. The power of "fear" should never be underestimated...

And thanks Mick for your kind words...

I am luck to have a choice.... Very luck.... Especially in this economy!

Nevin, a brief note to say I am in total agreement with you regarding the environment at Ren's blog; I never go there now, which is a shame.

Peace.

Living in a city can be fun but the suburbs do have their compensations, I hope you and your family enjoy your new home Nevin

We are also dreading a move to the suburbs for education purposes. Its a few years off still, but we are already sad.

The good news, Nevin, is now we can come and visit you more often as you will be one hour closer. Our children will really grow up together.

D.H, G. I do not think it's appropriate for me to comment about other blogs on my blog. :)

Jams.... All I can say is, thank you for your support and thank you for kind words... It may seem only words for some but for me it shows kindness... and that is all we can hope for in time of upheaval. :)

mberkmen... absolutely! and if you do not leave that rascal with me on the weekends, I will be knocking on your door...

I found New York City to be fun, but not livable. It's better to live outside of New York, and visit often. I think you made the right choice.

You have the right, to determine, what topics are on the table at your blog.

Fair enough.

Just to add, good luck with the move.

As a teenager, obsessed with Woody Allen, my dream was to live in New York. Watching Manhattan and Annie Hall, the city seemed like the coolest place on the planet. It still does in fact.

Instead I lived in a few European cities and of course London for a number of years. Returning north, I must admit I missed the amount of cultural activities on offer in London.

About five years ago I moved from a rundown, inner-city area of Liverpool and can now afford to live in a more suburban area of the city - with a garden. A great thing for the kids.

Enjoy the space...

Ren: Thank you.... I am making this move for my kids, not for me... :)

Sean: I lived in London for 12 years before moving to the US.... London, New York and Istanbul are my favorite cities. :)

When I was in New York, I thought I was in heaven. Everything I liked, and open all night.

It was overstimulating to me. I thought about living close, but not there.

I think you'll find you made the right decision.

Good luck with the move Nevin.

I can understand that it will be a bit of a shock to your system initially but you will get used to it.

We moved to an outer Melbourne suburb about 10 years ago. I did not want to make the move, arguing that it felt like moving to the sticks. But now I love it so much that I could never move or live close to town.

Your children will love it too.

I love the slower and carefree pace and I am sure you too will see the benefits.:)

By the way, nice photo of New York.

Are they chemtrails in the sky?
:)

Nevin said...

Thank you Ardent. It will be a difficult transition for me for sure but the children already love having a yard to play in and being out doors all the time. The schools are so much better. I know I am doing the right thing for my kids. I just need time to adjust I guess....

About the photo: It's the view from my current apartment here in the city. It was just a lovely bright day with beautiful clouds. I did use a filter in front of the lens to bring out the blue in the clouds... :) I am glad you enjoyed it... I will miss that view!!!

Good luck with the move!!!

Just remember, New York City is a great place to be from...

and now a great place to visit.

I miss it, and I visit often, but I wouldn't want to live there. The great climate of Souther California still works for me...

TT: Thank you my dear! I think it will all be good at the end....
