I have wanted to write my outrage about the brutal murder of Dr. Tiller for sometime now, but due to my hectic life lately, I was unable to get around it. This afternoon, I had some time in my hands, so I decided to get it off my chest.
I normally use my blog for therapeutic purposes. It is quite cathartic for me to write about issues that bother or annoy me. Usually it’s either politics or social issues of day-to-day struggles that humans have to endeavor. I am fortunate enough to have good friends and family who follow my blog with interest….
Today, I want to rant about “the right to have an abortion”. Let me start by saying, I will not get into the politics or religious aspect of this very polarized topic. I will write simply my opinion as a woman.
My body belongs to me and totally to me. Nobody else! No one has the right to tell me what to do with it. That includes how I dress, where I choose to cover up (or not), whether I choose to use contraception, have sexual relations prior to my marriage or decide to have an abortion. I do not believe society at large has the right to impose their belief system upon me. I am intelligent enough to make up my own mind on issues that directly affect my life.
Having said that, I also understand we all need to obey by certain rules that are already there for the betterment of society. I must respect the freedom and the boundaries of others as others must mine.
There are times in everyone’s life, becoming pregnant is not part of the plan at that moment in time or wanting to take the awesome responsibility of being a parent. As individuals, we MUST have the freedom to decide what is right or wrong for us. There are terrible cases where young girls become pregnant due to rape or incest. How in the hell can we tell those girls, they do not have the right to abort that pregnancy? Do we have the audacity to further punish individuals by forcing them to carry the burden of bringing a child that is totally unwanted into this world?
Sorry…. But there is no justification in my mind!
Women came along way to enjoy the freedom that they so desperately fought for. Having the right to decide what to do with our bodies is part of that freedom.
I would personally find it highly offensive, if I were to be forced to cover myself in headscarf by the society I reside in. I would find it equally offensive, if I were told that I do not have the freedom to end my unwanted pregnancy. It is my body and I must have the freedom to do what ever I want with it.
The only person who may have the right to argue with me is my husband, as it is his parenthood that is on the line as well. But that is a very personal decision couples have to make among themselves. Governments or some kind of crazy religious anti-abortion nuts do not have the right to tell me how to live my life or what to do with my body. They certainly do not have the right to kill Doctor’s who simply do their duty to support women who choose to end their pregnancy.
I am outraged by Dr. Tiller’s murder! I wish his family all the best. I am sad for his wife, children and grandchildren…
I would like to send Dr. Tiller’s family my sincere condolences.

The extreme right is isolated and desperate. It looks like some are given encouragement by their leaders, to commit terror. Signs of the death agony of their movement.
Nevin
I have forwarded this to my daughter and grand-daughter. At one time I was against abortion and I still find it an uncomfortable subject. However my wife and daughter eventually sat me down and using arguments much like you have made here, firmly pointed out it is not my right to decide what a woman does with her own body.
By the way have you blogged on the headscarf, I would be interested to read your views on this subject.
God loves religious fruits not religious nuts.
Ren: I sincerely hope that is the case but somehow I am not convinced that the religious right are that isolated and desperate. On the contrary, they have a lot more power in the political arena the ever before, they have a louder voice in the main stream media, and there are many right wing, religious talk radio programs on air.
Mick: Thank you for forwarding my post. :) I agree with your wife and daughter...
I have been thinking about writing about headscarf issue for a long time.... I think I will soon...
Isomerase: you say fruits, I say nuts... Let's call the whole thing off... ohh wait, was it tomato and tomahto? :) :) :)
Well said Nevin. I wholeheartedly agree with you on every point
Surprise ,there is liabilty to your creator which indicates that THE BODY IS GIVEN TO YOU IS TEMPLE and recorded how you use it and what you did with it etc for your two choise of destinations Hell or Heaven here and after.Of course you are free all you can under manly countation and the chairman and CEO is the DEVIL which they hate Moses and the message and bound to be oppose...
Abortion is such an emotive subject.
Having an abortion would not be a decision that a woman would make lightly. It would be an extremely distressing decision. The last thing a person needs is society to make her feel even worse about her decision.
One does not have an abortion simply because it is their right. One has an abortion because they are in a very deep dark hole and see no future prosperity for themselves or their unborn.
I feel sorry for women in this position.
Ardent: I agree, It would be an incredibly hard decision to make which could ultimately effect the rest of her life. However, it is a decision "she" must make with her partner, not the law. And certainly killing Doctors is not the solution... :)
Hear, hear Nevin! Well said.
A decision for an abortion is one made with pain and anguish. A woman has a complete right to her own body. Extremely rarely (and it usually blares a headline) do men step up and say they will raise the child and pay for the mother's confinement, etc.. I know of only one in all my time on earth and yes he did raise the child, carried her to all his engineering classes (he was still a student)and the mother signed off completely on her.
The problem isn't abortion, it is the twisted religious patriarchy who basically hate children.

It's ironic how a deranged believer of 'sacred' life of the unborn can take the life of the living...
But this nutcase does not obviously represent the 'right-to-life' believers...
Why can't we simply ask people to stop having sex, period! This way, it's a win-win for both sides....
:)
TT: I think what you are asking for is humanly impossible!
WWW: I totally agree with you! :)
